Celebrating #WomenInConstruction Week - March 6th - 12th
An important part of any position in construction is getting out onto the job site. Whether you’re a technician, project manager, or estimator – so much can be gained from spending time on the job site. The same is true for the other people that make up the construction workforce – the accounting team, the CAD designers, the marketing personnel, the administrators. Sometimes we forget just how beneficial and fun it is for these team members to get out of the office and visit the site.
In honor of WIC Week 2022, the construction women of Allied took a site tour. We donned our hard hats, our high-vis, and our safety glasses, and took an afternoon outside of the office. For this particular site tour, we traveled to Mount Aaron Village on Buffalo’s rejuvenating East Side. This project has it all – town homes, apartments, mixed use, office space. We’ve got boilers and fan coil units, furnaces and air conditioners, ductwork and hot water piping. And this site is large enough that we have different stages of the project going on different floors and in different buildings. This means we can see spaces with only ductwork, spaces with furnaces installed, and spaces with completed HVAC systems.

This site tour was a wonderful opportunity for our office team to be able to lay eyes on the actual items that they’re spending their days billing, drawing, or talking about. We had a great time seeing the copper pipe that connects the individual fan coil units back to the boiler, and seeing how the floor and ceiling registers are connected back to the furnace. We spend so much time visualizing these items, it’s fun to get out and see them in real life.

What made this site tour different was the focus on our women in construction. Mount Aaron Village was chosen not just because of the wide variety in mechanical systems, but also because one of our field installers, Blanca, was there today. Blanca has been on this site since the beginning, and knows this site inside and out. She’s a huge value to our team, and a perfect example of what women in construction look like – hard working, knowledgeable, and dedicated.
